Migraine is an attack of severe headache, which can last for hours to sometimes to days. The headache is usually on one side of the head and is pounding or throbbing in quality. It can get worse when you walk up the stairs or with too much movement. In addition to headaches, people with migraines also regularly experience nausea and are hypersensitive to smell, sound and light. Talking takes a lot of effort, the field of view decreases and sometimes you also see spots or flashes of light in the vision.

During a migraine attack it is difficult to function properly, the only option is to go to bed and take a rest. The headache comes in multiple attacks. If you regularly suffer from migraines, this has a major impact on your daily life.

Causes of migraine

The cause of migraines are multifactorial, The cooperation and communication between the blood vessels and the nerves in the brain are temporarily disrupted for some reason. Although not much is known about the exact causes of migraines, genetic predisposition and environmental factors seem to play a role.

The main causes of migraines are:

  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Certain foods
  • Alcohol
  • Histamine intolerance
