What is tension headache

This is one of the most common types of headaches and affects people of all ages. Tension headaches are mainly caused by stress, poor posture or anxiety.

Tension headache feels like a dull or pressing pain in the skull skin, temples or neck. Sometimes it feels like there is a tight band around the head. The pain is mild to moderate and does not get worse with physical exertion. There is no nausea or vomiting. Usually the pain is present on both sides of the head, sometimes only on one side. If the pain occurs unilaterally, it can also be another type of headache. When the headache is severe, symptoms of migraines are often present.

Causes of tension headaches:

  • Stress
  • Physical exertion
  • Fatigue
  • Eye effort
  • Lack of sleep
  • Poor posture
  • Irregular life pattern
  • Upper chest breathing
  • Overload of the chewing muscles of the jaw
